Ingredients (Serves 4):
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 tablespoon butter
3 large onions sliced into thin rings
2 teaspoons raw cane sugar
2 teaspoons plain flour
550 ml vegetable broth
A sprig of thyme
Black pepper
1 tablespoon soy sauce
Method:
- Heat the oil and butter in a large pot, add the onion and sugar, and cook until they brown.
- Add the flour, stir, and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the broth, thyme, soy sauce, and black pepper.
- Lower the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Serve hot.
